This morning I was listening to Round Table discussions and it was about Christ in Gethsemane and what he went through.
They talked about how they would brutally beat the olives down off the Olive tree they did not just pick them like we do cherries. They used this as symbolism of Christ how he was brutally beaten with whips. Which they used to beat the Olives off of the tree.
They talked how they get the Olive Oil pressed out by pressing the Olive until the Oil came out and would drop onto the stone and it was blood red and would drip out onto the stone and it would stain the stone and it would remain that there until the rain came and sun that would fade it out. Andrew Skinner said when he was in Jerusalem with his students and saw this process he really was stunned by it because he thought about Christ and it has left an impression on him forever.
They brought up that when Christ was in the Garden of Gethsemane and he dropped drops of blood and when he fell down in the garden it was because this was the first time he had ever experienced sin and what it really felt like. He was pressed down so hard he was weak and pleaded with God for release from this pressure that was upon him. They said that the Garden was in the place of the Olive tree and he went there often to pray and teach his disciple and also close to the place of his burial the tombs he knew this is where he would be laid down for rest.
I just thought it was very interesting this morning. They brought up this is why Judas Iscariot knew where to lead the guards to Christ and betray him because he went there many times with Christ to be taught.
