Cantalopes: I was wondering how to tell when a cantalope is ready to pick from my garden . I was asking this man at the grocery store and he said you can tell by lifting the cantalope up gently and if the stem breaks off from the cantalope easily it is ripe. Also from the store if the end that is usally attached to the cantalope when in the garden is yellow on the end it is ripe. That is what I did last year and the cantalope was ready and ripe and very good.
